![]() ![]() Still worth a playthrough for history's sake to see what they were going for. ![]() I can't help but imagine what this would have been like in the hands of a skilled Japanese studio, they could have easily fixed this game's myriad issues. Some great music though of course, and the idea for a brilliant game is in there, but it just falls apart when you try to actually play it. Don't even get me started with the platforming segments, good god. Objectives are obtuse and half the time you will need a guide to work out what on earth you're supposed to be doing. Making backtracking a gigantic pain in the balls. Also the enemies are near-invincible, once they're knocked down their health refills and they just get back up. If you do it incorrectly, your ninja will move, messing up your positioning and forcing you to try it again.Ĭombat is a crapshoot, the collision detection is so inconsistent that 90% of the time your weapon just goes straight through the enemy, yet they can hit you perfectly every single time. The controls are atrocious, just picking up items in the game is a baffling ordeal because you have to be positioned absolutely pixel perfect, followed by inputting a controller combination that is relative to the direction you're facing. What was ambitious as hell and impressive at the time is now just an absolute mess. If there were a single game series in dire need of some kind of remake it's the Last Ninja Trilogy.
